“Camp Hero was an amazing experience that taught me so much about myself and mental health as a whole I have learnt how to take off my mask, open up and express myself and how to support my friends through their own challenges. My biggest takeaway was that everyone struggles with their own challenges, but when we dive deeper and begin to face these challenges, we unlock growth, friendship, diversity and vulnerability.”

So, What Does zero2hero Do?

It’s simple. We exist to improve young people’s mental health and wellbeing, and ultimately prevent suicide in Australia.

Our current mental health system is geared toward treatment rather than prevention, but we believe providing support before the point of crisis is crucial if we want to prevent suicide.

That’s why we need to start with our young people!

Why Young People?

Because over 75% of mental health issues occur before the age of 25. How young people manage their thoughts, emotions and behaviours sets the foundations for managing in adulthood. That’s why we believe it’s vital to start the conversations earlier.

Meet the Hero of Story

After losing her stepfather to suicide, Ashlee Harrison was compelled to do something about an issue that affects and devastates so many.

She harnessed her energy to bring people together to run events and fundraisers that spread the message of suicide prevention.

Although the initial events were successful, when Ashlee saw the statistics on when mental health issues actually formed, she knew that the focus needed to be at the source of the issues – it needed to be shifted towards young people.

zero2hero was created in 2009, and since then has educated, engaged and empowered thousands of young heroes every year.
